This September we are supporting the Soil Association’s Organic September campaign, so it’s a great time to introduce you to Woodruffs, who back in 1998 was one of Britain’s first completely organic cafés.
Set on a prominent corner of the high street in the Cotswold town of Stroud, Woodruffs has a bright and welcoming interior with the work of local artists on walls. The food is appetising and healthy and is accompanied by a range of Canton’s organic teas – naturally.
Owner, Holly Moore tells us: “Our ethos is to use the finest organic ingredients sourced locally to create inventive and delicious food for all dietary requirements. Our dishes are mainly vegetarian, although sustainably caught fish does also feature on the menu”.
Tea at Woodruffs
Woodruffs has been serving a variety of Canton’s teas since 2012:
“We started serving Canton Tea after our staff did a blind tasting of Canton and the tea we were serving at the time. Canton Tea won hands down on taste, and it’s great that they also offer a wide selection of organic teas. I love their range of herbal infusions by Jekka McVicar, her herb farm is also in Gloucestershire so it sits very well in our locally sourced menu”.
According to Holly, their full English breakfast, which comes with beetroot cured salmon in place of bacon, pairs well with a cup of Classic Earl Grey, whilst a pot of Organic Wild Rooibos makes an ideal companion to a slice of Kurdish apple cake.
Natural Cookery School
Not only is Woodruff’s great for dining, it’s also home to the Natural Cookery School, where head chef Erin Baker runs evening classes for novice vegetarian cooks. A great place to learn how to create more inspiring vegetarian food at home.
After a busy summer providing catering at events across the Cotswolds and beyond, Woodruffs is now working on introducing a lunchtime delivery service, which will be welcome news for everyone living and working in Stroud.
