I was somewhat underwhelmed when I first sampled this tea, thinking it a bit too well-mannered and stand-offish in comparison to its other more extravert oolong cousins within this taste spectrum, such as Big Red Robe or Shui Xian. But after a while you become aware of its more subtle aspects, a very smooth background, all very reminiscent of the walnut-panelled rooms of an Oxford college JCR, full of elegance and erudition. A tea to have with buttered crumpets and ginger biscuits, to make a perfect afternoon repast. (Posted on 12/17/11)Rating
