As an introduction to puerh, this combines two different styles of aged and compressed tea as well as an authentic and beautiful Yixing teapot with which to brew them. For someone who knows and loves puerhs, this is an original and authentic gift. The beeng cha (disc or cake) and tuo cha (nest) are both exceptional examples and both from famous and respected tea factories.The 2008 Jing Mai cooked beeng cha has a rich, smooth liquor with an earthy, nutty taste and a touch of plum. The aftertaste is sweet and leaves a pleasantly dry fruity hint. Though good to drink now, it is still young so can also be put aside and stored carefully for a little while to mellow and mature.
The 2004 Xia Guan raw tuo cha was first produced by the Xia Guan puerh factory in 1992 and has been one of the most sought after puerhs ever since. The tea produces a pure liquor with a full-bodied flavour and a flowery character that becomes more pronounced with every infusion.
The traditional Yixing teapot has the makers seal (chop mark) on the base, under the handle and inside the lid. It is handmade from the famous zisha or purple clay of the Yixing region and being porous should only ever be rinsed with fresh water – never cleaned with any detergents.
