Although one of the most popular teas in China due to its exceptional quality, very little is exported so few people have had the pleasure of tasting it in the West.

Our tea is grown at elevations of up to 1500 m on E Mei mountain and is made with carefully handpicked 1 bud and 1 leaf. The tiny, fresh leaves are gently wilted in bamboo baskets before being heated and pressed in a hot wok. It is a very early spring tea, picked before the rains.

The tea first gained notoriety in the 1960’s (although it had been made for centuries before) when a minister of the communist party visited the area and took a liking to the tea. When asked what he wanted to name the tea he said it must be named ‘Green Bamboo Leaf’ or ‘Zhu Ye Qing’ as it resembles fresh baby bamboo.

This is the first time we’ve been able to offer Panda Green on our website, and we have just 5kg in total. Incredibly refreshing and savoury, it is unlike any other green tea we have.
