Yellow Gold (Huang Jin Gui)
Yellow Gold Oolong
Other names: Huang Jin Gui Wu Long, Golden Osmanthus Oolong
Huang Jin Gui means Golden Osmanthus, so called because its yellowish green leaves produce a golden liquor and it has a distinct Osmanthus flower-like aroma. It is a high-grown tea from Fujian that starts with a fruity flavour but becomes more sweetly floral.
This is one of the four famous Anxi Oolongs (like Tie Guan Yin) but it is made from the top leaves of the first spring harvest in Anxi County. These leaves can be infused several times and the character changes with each brew. It has become hugely sought-after due to its delicious easy-drinking nature and its affordable price.

The main things I look for in an everyday tea are it being affordable, easy to drink, relatively easy to make, and delicious. This leaf excels in all four categories. I'm beginning to feel like Canton can do no wrong, and I love that in a tea company.

This tea does not have the honey taste like the Iron Budda but is still very refreshing and smooth. A pleasant aroma with nearly no bitterness. (Posted on 2/17/13)

I love this. Is quite subtle but without that being code for "boring". It smells to me of coconut.

Smooth and fragrant favorite

This is tea is pure ambrosia. So drinkable, it has become my every-evening tea. It has an incredibly smooth texture and lush, fragrant bouquet that I can not compare it to any other tea. Floral sweetness might be reminiscent of jasmine but much less bitter. A distinctive pleasure to drink. I do not re-use the leaves however because I have not found the flavor of the second pot is as nice as the first. It is pricey - but represents a good value. (Posted on 9/27/12)

This tea is a very easy drinking, smooth and tasty Oolong. I use it as my every day tea now and I don't mind the price tag as it's refreshing and flavoursome and I always get more then one brew from the leaves. Canton tea never fail to impress me with their selections. (Posted on 7/26/12)

This earns a badge of excellence

"Third infusion (forty seconds): Wow, the “gold” in this tea never wanted to let up – like, ever. It certainly lives up to its name. On first whiff, I was instantly reminded of a green or light-roasted Ti Guanyin, only less refined. The first sip was exquisitely balanced between floral and creamy textures and tastes. By far my favorite infusion thus far...."

Lovely tea, Canton Tea. Thanks!

" If I were to give this tea a musical label, I would say she is a mezzo-soprano, with plenty of high (but not overly high) notes and a powerful middle register. There is little to no bitterness, and I can't discern any distinguishing low notes (which one would usually associate with, say, an Assam or other black teas). It's quite strong and bright, like hot sunlight filtered through a latticework screen...."

Good for multiple infusions

This is very much a green oolong, not sweet, not too bitter.
This tea really reminds me of crisp, fresh cut grass.
Good for multiple infusions. The bitterness fades with each infusion, making this oolong more enjoyable the further you go. Try it, Experiment. Enjoy!
