Dobashien Gyokuro

Japanese Gyokuro blend from Dobashien's Master Blender.
This stunning Gyokuro was blended just for Canton by eminent Chashi (Tea Master) Michihiko Nishimura of Dobashien: the most famous tea shop in Japan. He chose the highest grade, shade-grown leaves from Kyoto farms. The delicate dark green needles should be treated carefully, brewed at a cool temperature to preserve the exquisite sweetness and rich umami flavours.

Amazing delicately tasting high quality tea

/ 5

I've ordered this tea three times already. Simply love the exquisite taste. It is expensive but is of highest quality and leaves can be eaten after brewing. I usually add them to my green salad, they have a very delicate taste.

You can almost imagine you are in a tea house in Kyoto

/ 5

An expensive tea, but totally worth the price. Smooth, subtle and well balanced. Not in your face flavour, but understated and exactly what you want from a Gyokuro. When you drink it, you can almost imagine you are in a tea house in Kyoto.

Dobashien is the most prestigious tea shop in Tokyo, established in 1892 and a big favourite of Japanese politicians. One of their Tea Masters, Michihiko Nishimura, has developed this blend for Canton by creating an exclusive flavour profile for us. Each time we order, he selects leaves that match our profile.

In China and India, single estate, single invoice teas are typically more highly valued, so the concept of a high-grade blended tea may seem unusual. However, in Japan, having a tea blended for you by a highly respected Chashi is very prestigious.

Michihiko Nishimura believes there is a secret to his success as a Chashi:

“Now I am 53 years old and to aid my concentration ability I practice Musō Jikiden Eishin-ryū, a form of ancient Japanese sword martial art. I believe this practice is integral to my ability as a chashi.”
