Jin Jun Mei Black Tea

We are delighted to have got hold of this very rare and hugely desirable tea - a must for lovers of authentic Wuyi teas. It is made from masses of tiny black and gold tips, covered in a golden fuzz. It has a smooth, rounded mouthfeel with full, sweet, malty flavours that burst onto the palate and linger long and soft.

Jin Jun Mei is made only with the tender young tea buds and there are an estimated 5,000 sprouts per 50 g of tea. It was only created in 2005 when some young tea buds were discovered in the Wuyi National Nature Reserve around 1800 meters above sea level.

The buds were taken to Tong Mu village where one of the first black teas, Lapsang souchong was created 300 years ago. The tea master Mr. Liang Jun De developed the new processing of these buds which was based loosely on the way traditional lapsang souchong is made, but without the smoking over pine.
